UAE Parliament Leader Chairs Global Initiative on Ukraine Peace Resolution
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi has chaired a significant meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's task force dedicated to achieving peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, during the organisation's 153rd Assembly in Tanzania.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Head of the Federal National Council’s Parliamentary Division at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Chair of the IPU Task Force on the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine, presided over a substantive gathering of the task force during the IPU’s 153rd Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess recent developments surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict whilst reviewing the task force’s comprehensive action plan aimed at fostering constructive dialogue and advancing towards a peaceful settlement of the longstanding dispute.
Speaking at the session, Dr. Al Nuaimi emphasised that the establishment of the task force represents a meaningful affirmation of the IPU’s unwavering commitment to promoting international peace and encouraging meaningful dialogue between nations. He highlighted the instrumental role that parliamentary diplomacy continues to play in facilitating conflict resolution and building bridges between parliaments confronting complex geopolitical challenges.
During the assembly, the task force undertook separate engagements with parliamentary delegations representing both Ukraine and the Russian Federation. These distinct meetings provided valuable opportunities to hear directly from both sides regarding their perspectives, to discuss the most recent developments in the conflict, and to identify potential pathways through which parliamentary dialogue might contribute meaningfully to advancing prospects for lasting peace.
The UAE’s leadership of this significant diplomatic initiative underscores the country’s commitment to international peace and stability, whilst demonstrating the constructive role that parliamentary institutions can play in addressing global challenges through measured dialogue and collaborative engagement.
