UAE Research Program advances global scientific partnerships at Amsterdam meteorological conferences

UAEREP strengthens international collaboration in atmospheric sciences and rain enhancement research, engaging leading institutions from across the world in pursuit of innovative water security solutions.
The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science participated in the Meteorological Technology World Expo and the World Meteorological Organisation’s Technical Conference on Meteorological and Environmental Instruments and Methods of Observation, held in Amsterdam from 5 to 8 October 2026. The engagement formed part of the Program’s continuing endeavour to cultivate international collaboration in atmospheric sciences whilst exploring emerging technologies and scientific innovations that address the pressing global challenge of water security.
Throughout the conferences, the UAEREP delegation engaged in substantive discussions with leading scientific institutions and international technology companies, examining advances in atmospheric observation networks, dual-polarisation weather radar systems, remote sensing technologies, high-resolution weather forecasting, and hydrological modelling. These exchanges generated considerable interest amongst representatives from the United States, United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Japan, Slovakia, Italy, Brazil and the Netherlands, with numerous stakeholders expressing enthusiasm for future research collaboration and participation in the program’s forthcoming Seventh Cycle.
Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, President of the World Meteorological Organisation and Chairman of the National Center of Meteorology, observed that UAEREP’s participation demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to advancing international scientific cooperation and developing innovative solutions to water security challenges. “These engagements provided a valuable opportunity to exchange expertise with leading research institutions and global experts,” Dr. Al Mandous remarked, whilst highlighting the importance of gaining insights into the latest advances in atmospheric observation and measurement technologies.
Dr. Ahmad Al Kamali, Director of UAEREP and Acting Head of Cloud Seeding Operations at the National Center of Meteorology, emphasised the Program’s dedication to fostering a globally connected research ecosystem. “Through this approach, the Program seeks to accelerate the development of promising technologies and advance the transition from scientific research to practical applications that support water security and long-term sustainability,” Dr. Al Kamali explained.
The Dutch engagement concluded with a visit to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute in Utrecht, where UAEREP representatives met with Prof. Dr Maarten van Aalst, Director General and Chief Science Officer, to explore cooperation opportunities in weather and climate sciences, high-resolution modelling, satellite-based Earth observation and early warning systems. The visit encompassed a tour of the institute’s Weather Room and Monitoring Field, alongside scientific discussions pertaining to rain enhancement research and atmospheric sciences.
