UAE University to Host Eighth International Conference on Engineering Geophysics

Under the distinguished patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Ain Region, the United Arab Emirates University will convene the 8th International Conference on Engineering Geophysics this October, bringing together leading scientists and researchers from across the globe.

The United Arab Emirates University, in gracious collaboration with Al Ain City Municipality, will host the 8th International Conference on Engineering Geophysics from 13 to 15 October 2026 at The Founder Sheikh Zayed’s Hall on the university campus in Al Ain Region. This prestigious gathering, held under the distinguished patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, will convene an exceptional assembly of scientists, researchers and geophysics engineering experts from nations across several continents.

The conference will explore the profound applications of near-surface geophysics engineering, examining innovative technologies and solutions for investigating soil composition and infrastructure integrity, locating groundwater resources, supporting transformative urban projects, and applying sophisticated geophysical methods to protect the Emirates’ natural and geological heritage.

Professor Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, remarked that hosting this distinguished conference reflects the institution’s considerable research standing and its steadfast commitment to advancing applied research and fostering international partnerships of scholarly excellence. The event will eloquently connect scientific knowledge with the nation’s development aspirations, particularly in infrastructure advancement, water resource stewardship and environmental sustainability. The university continues to invest substantially in research infrastructure that empowers scientists to develop innovative solutions to contemporary engineering and environmental challenges.

Rashed Musabbeh Al Manei, Director-General of Al Ain City Municipality, observed that hosting the conference in Al Ain Region underscores its dedication to supporting specialised events that bridge scientific research with municipal practice. This collaborative endeavour contributes to sustainable urban development and the conscientious preservation of natural resources for future generations, whilst providing an invaluable platform for exchanging expertise and examining scientific and technological solutions for infrastructure and sustainable development initiatives.

The conference will unfold under the thematic framework of Geophysics for a Sustainable Future: Innovating for Urban Resilience and Geotourism. This theme, articulated by Professor Maamar Benkraouda, Chair of the Conference Organising Committee, reflects the vital role of research in advancing sustainable development, enhancing natural resource management, and safeguarding natural and geological heritage. The scientific programme will comprise distinguished keynote sessions, peer-reviewed research presentations and specialised workshops, convening more than 100 researchers and experts representing 25 countries.

An accompanying exhibition of considerable distinction will showcase 30 organisations from across the globe, presenting cutting-edge advances in subsurface exploration, geophysical modelling and geophysics engineering applications. The conference will foster the development of research partnerships and expertise exchange amongst academic institutions, government entities and the private sector, thereby strengthening the Emirates’ contribution to international research in geophysics engineering and its environmental applications.
