Jon Rahm to make his Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship debut
The two-time Major champion will compete at Yas Links next month, joining an exceptional field for the opening event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs
The Spanish golfing virtuoso Jon Rahm will make his eagerly anticipated debut at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, arriving at the emirate’s prestigious Yas Links venue for the opening event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs from November 5 to 8. As a two-time Major champion and ten-time DP World Tour title holder, Rahm brings formidable credentials to this world-class assembly.
Rahm’s relationship with the UAE has proved particularly fruitful throughout his distinguished career. The former World Number One has claimed five titles across the Rolex Series, with three of these victories materialising at the DP World Tour Championship in 2017, 2019 and 2022, complemented by two triumphant appearances at the Irish Open in 2017 and 2019. His success at Jumeirah Golf Estates marked a singular achievement, making him the first Spanish golfer since the legendary Seve Ballesteros to top the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World.
Speaking of his forthcoming appearance, Rahm expressed genuine enthusiasm for the occasion. “I’ve had some of the best weeks of my career in the UAE, so I’m really looking forward to playing in Abu Dhabi for the first time,” he remarked. “I’ve heard great things about Yas Links, and I’m looking forward to playing there. It’ll be great to get started in Abu Dhabi before heading to Dubai the following week.”
The championship will welcome the leading seventy available players competing within the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World, with the tournament organised conjointly by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour. The top fifty finishers will advance to secure their places for the season-concluding DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Rahm will join an assembly of exceptional talent, including defending champion and US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, alongside the illustrious Rory McIlroy, whose pursuit of a record-equalling eighth Race to Dubai title continues with unwavering determination. The Spaniard’s contribution to European golf extends to his ten and a half Ryder Cup points accumulated across the last four editions of this venerable competition.
