Federal National Council to participate in second GCC-European parliamentary conference in Brussels
A delegation led by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, will attend a significant gathering of parliamentary leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council and European Parliament, furthering diplomatic relations between the two regions.
The Federal National Council is set to participate in a momentous diplomatic gathering as a distinguished delegation, headed by Saqr Ghobash in his capacity as Speaker of the FNC, prepares to attend the second Conference of the European Parliament and Gulf Cooperation Council Speakers of Shura, Representatives, National and Ummah Councils. This significant convocation will take place at the European Parliament’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
The conference will be presided over by Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, and will welcome Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, GCC Secretary-General, amongst its distinguished participants. This gathering represents a continuation of meaningful engagement between two influential parliamentary bodies, each committed to advancing shared interests and fostering mutual understanding.
The overarching purpose of this assembly encompasses several vital objectives: to strengthen parliamentary relations between the GCC and Europe, to enhance constructive dialogue and cooperation between the two regions, to lend substantial support to the strategic partnership between the GCC and the European Union, and to facilitate the invaluable exchange of parliamentary expertise and established best practices.
The UAE demonstrated its commitment to this burgeoning parliamentary partnership by hosting the inaugural GCC-European parliamentary meeting in Abu Dhabi during June 2025. That historic occasion took place at the gracious invitation of the FNC Speaker and benefited from the participation of the President of the European Parliament and the speakers of the legislative councils representing each of the GCC member states. This initiative reflected the UAE’s broader dedication to strengthening parliamentary dialogue and cooperation between the two regions, establishing a foundation upon which this subsequent conference continues to build.
