Abdulrahman Al Madani and the Art of Emirati Storytelling

As we join the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation in commemorating three decades of artistic stewardship and cultural nurturing, we encounter the luminous work of filmmaker Abdulrahman Al Madani, whose artistic vision embodies a profound commitment to Emirati storytelling and the preservation of authentic local narratives.

In 2025, Al Madani received the Gulf Capital ADMAF Visual Arts Award for his film ‘Oug’, a thoughtfully crafted exploration of the intricate dynamics surrounding marriage, parenthood and family expectations within Emirati society. The work stands as a testament to his dedication to capturing the nuanced experiences of his community with sensitivity and artistic integrity.

Through such compelling narratives, the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation continues to champion filmmakers and artists who craft stories deeply rooted in community experience and cultural significance. By providing platforms and recognition for creators like Al Madani, the institution ensures that important local narratives reach ever wider audiences, fostering cross cultural understanding and celebrating the richness of Emirati heritage on the global stage.

The foundation’s three decade journey of connecting cultures and championing artistic excellence remains as vital as ever, nurturing the next generation of storytellers who will continue to illuminate the complexities and beauty of life within the Emirates.
