The Second Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial Unfolds Across the Emirate
We are invited to encounter a remarkable gathering of artistic voices as the second edition of the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial unfolds across the Emirate. Conceived under the evocative theme ‘Home: A Glossary for a Communal Sense of Place’, this biennial celebrates the profound ways in which art can illuminate our shared understanding of belonging, community and the spaces we inhabit together.
The participating artists, each bringing their own distinctive perspective and creative sensibility, have been carefully selected to present works across multiple locations throughout Abu Dhabi. These thoughtfully curated installations and interventions transform public spaces into venues for genuine interaction and meaningful dialogue with audiences. Whether through sculpture, installation, performance or other compelling artistic mediums, each work invites us to contemplate afresh our relationship with home, place and the collective experience of inhabiting shared environments.
This biennial represents a significant moment in Abu Dhabi’s cultural landscape, reflecting the Emirate’s commitment to fostering a vibrant public realm where art becomes an accessible, integral part of daily life. By distributing artworks across various sites throughout the city, the biennial ensures that residents and visitors alike encounter these provocative and inspiring creations in the spaces where they work, gather and move through their lives. This democratic approach to cultural presentation transforms Abu Dhabi itself into a sprawling gallery, where contemplation and conversation flourish organically.
The theme itself speaks to fundamental human yearnings: the search for sanctuary, the construction of community, and the ways in which our environments shape and reflect our identities. Through the diverse artistic voices gathered here, we discover fresh vocabulary for discussing these timeless concerns, enriching our collective conversation about what home means in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
