Contemporary Ceramics Celebrate the Artistry of Eight Emirati Women

The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery extends a gracious invitation to an opening reception celebrating a significant new exhibition that promises to illuminate the refined and expressive realm of contemporary ceramics. Taking place on Thursday, October 22, at half past five in the evening within the Project Space, this inaugural curatorial venture brings together works of remarkable artistic merit and cultural resonance.

Curated by Shafeena Yusuff Ali in her debut curatorial project, the exhibition titled “Bodies that Make, Bodies that Grieve” presents contemporary ceramic pieces by eight accomplished women artists based in the United Arab Emirates, each drawing upon practices rooted deeply within the Global South. The assembled artists are Mirna Bamieh, Moza Al Falasi, Nujoom Alghanem, Malavika, Parneet Pahwa, Zahra Shafie, Laiba Sherin, and Haseena Suresh.

This thoughtfully curated presentation represents a celebration of artistic voices that reflect the diverse creative landscape flourishing within Abu Dhabi’s cultural sphere. The works on display embody the profound intersection of craftsmanship, conceptual depth, and cultural heritage that characterises contemporary ceramic practice across the region.

To attend this distinguished opening reception, guests are cordially invited to register via the gallery’s designated channels, ensuring their names correspond precisely with those appearing on their official photo identification. The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery team will complete the necessary registration within the visitor system. Should you require parking facilities, kindly register with Campus Safety at the parking entrance.

This exhibition represents an opportunity to experience art that speaks eloquently to the human condition, crafted with exceptional technical skill and artistic vision by women artists whose contributions continue to enrich Abu Dhabi’s thriving cultural landscape.
