Emaar’s Substantial Sales Backlog Reflects Enduring Confidence in the UAE Market

The developer's AED180 billion sales backlog and robust 98% collection rate demonstrate the resilience of the Emirati property market and investors' unwavering faith in the nation's stability and leadership.
At the ninth Sharjah Investment Forum, Founder and Managing Director of Emaar Properties Mohamed Alabbar unveiled compelling figures that underscore the vitality of the UAE’s real estate sector and the steadfast confidence that customers place in the nation’s market fundamentals. The company’s sales backlog, representing the substantial value of property sales yet to be recognised as revenue, stands at approximately AED180 billion, whilst the collection rate has maintained an impressive 98%, demonstrating the resilience of both the developer and its clientele.
Alabbar attributed these figures to the UAE’s exceptional stability and visionary leadership, qualities that have proven instrumental in sustaining customer confidence despite periods of regional uncertainty. The developer typically sells approximately 4,000 units monthly, with an average of 600 cancellations. During a temporary period of regional tension, cancellations did increase to around 1,200 units, yet this figure has since moderated to below 600. Importantly, collections remained constant at 98% throughout this period, reflecting the enduring commitment of purchasers to their investments in the Emirate.
The hospitality sector within Emaar’s portfolio has demonstrated particularly remarkable performance, operating at more than 60% above previous levels, whilst the company’s e-commerce platform, noon, continued to record strong purchasing activity, further evidence of consumer confidence remaining unshaken.
Speaking during a fireside chat titled ‘The CEO’s Playbook: Leading Through Constant Change’, Alabbar articulated a compelling vision of how the UAE’s fundamental attributes distinguish it as an exceptional destination for investment and long-term settlement. He emphasised that stability, quality of life and educational provision have become the paramount considerations for investors and families contemplating relocation, transcending traditional financial incentives. In an era of mounting global uncertainty, the nation’s commitment to personal security, institutional excellence and long-term prosperity positions it as an increasingly attractive haven for those seeking stability.
Reflecting on the accelerating pace of global disruption, Alabbar observed that major challenges have historically occurred with remarkable frequency, yet argued this reality should not impede progress or deter enterprise. He advocated for business leaders to embrace greater strategic agility, undertaking quarterly assessments rather than adhering to rigid five-year planning cycles, particularly given the transformative impact of technological advancement and artificial intelligence on competitive landscapes.
Alabbar concluded that sustainable success derives from an unwavering commitment to quality rather than price reduction, coupled with the cultivation of exceptional talent and the maintenance of institutional integrity across geographies. His philosophy reflects the enduring principle that one’s name, family legacy and national reputation constitute the only truly sustainable assets in commerce and life.
