The UAE Judo Federation has announced the successful completion of all preparatory arrangements for the Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Slam Championship, an esteemed fixture on the International Judo Federation’s global calendar. The tournament will take place from 29 to 31 October at Mubadala Arena, under the direct supervision of the International Judo Federation, welcoming hundreds of elite competitors from numerous nations.
The championship presents a substantial prize purse of €154,000, with the additional distinction of offering Olympic qualifying points to participating athletes. This dual incentive underscores the event’s significance as a crucial stepping stone for judo competitors preparing for the Olympic Games.
The UAE national team, having recently concluded an intensive overseas training camp in Georgia, will make its tournament debut on the opening day, competing across three weight categories: 52kg, 57kg and 66kg. The delegation is expected to return to Abu Dhabi prior to the championship’s commencement.
Mohammed bin Thaloub Al Derie, President of the UAE Judo Federation and Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, has confirmed that all working committees have meticulously completed the technical and organisational arrangements in full accordance with the approved schedule. This comprehensive collaboration with relevant entities across the Emirate ensures the tournament will be conducted according to the most exacting international standards.
The Higher Organizing Committee has thoughtfully curated accompanying cultural programmes for visiting delegations, including guided tours of Al Hudayriyat and Saadiyat, affording international guests the opportunity to experience Abu Dhabi’s distinguished cultural heritage and world class tourist attractions. Every logistical element, from delegation reception and departure procedures to the tournament draw and technical requirements, has been meticulously arranged.
Mr Al Derie emphasised that the successful organisation of this prestigious event reflects the UAE’s established position as a leading international host of major sporting competitions, achieved through the steadfast support of the nation’s wise leadership. He commended the invaluable contributions of the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, together with the dedicated efforts of local judo clubs in ensuring the championship’s excellence.
