Jordan’s Digital Health Revolution: A Testament to UAE Partnership

Jordan's Digital Health Revolution: A Testament to UAE Partnership

Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship celebrates the transformative impact of the UAE's support in revolutionising healthcare delivery through innovative digital infrastructure and remote medical capabilities.

Speaking at the Future Health Summit 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Sami Smeirat, Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, has eloquently articulated the profound significance of the United Arab Emirates’ steadfast partnership in advancing digital transformation across Jordan’s healthcare sector. The minister’s remarks underscored how this collaborative endeavour has fundamentally reshaped the delivery of medical services and expanded access to specialised care across the Kingdom.

The centrepiece of Jordan’s digital healthcare achievement is its Digital Health Centre, an innovative virtual hospital infrastructure that seamlessly interconnects twelve government and peripheral hospitals. This sophisticated network facilitates the delivery of remote specialised medical services to rural and remote areas, encompassing medical consultations, diagnostic imaging and intensive care capabilities that were previously accessible only to those residing in urban centres.

The technological advancement has yielded remarkable improvements in clinical outcomes. Remote intensive care and patient monitoring services have substantially accelerated medical interventions, enhanced treatment efficacy and fortified the responsiveness of healthcare professionals to critical cases. The digitalisation of radiology services exemplifies this transformation, with report turnaround times compressed from approximately ten days to fewer than twenty-four hours, whilst emergency reports are now available within minutes. This dramatic acceleration directly translates to swifter diagnoses and more expedient therapeutic interventions.

Digital infrastructure has equally transformed the delivery of specialised services in geographically challenging regions. Specialists now supervise dialysis sessions remotely and monitor comprehensive healthcare services in remote areas, ensuring continuity of care and facilitating meticulous patient follow-up protocols that would otherwise be impossible to maintain.

The Minister emphasised that Jordan is progressing steadily towards the complete digitalisation of the entire healthcare journey, including the establishment of a unified electronic health record for every patient. This comprehensive digital ecosystem will facilitate seamless data integration and information exchange amongst healthcare institutions, creating an interconnected system that optimises resource allocation and operational efficiency.

Beyond immediate clinical benefits, digital technologies represent a fundamental reimagining of healthcare delivery, improving resource utilisation and enhancing the precision and velocity of medical procedures. Minister Smeirat underscored the importance of sustained cooperation and knowledge exchange between nations, acknowledging that such partnerships remain essential to the development of innovative healthcare solutions and the advancement of quality of life across societies.
