Abu Dhabi Emerges as Premier Global Destination for Generational Family Capital

The emirate's economic stability, robust non-oil growth and strengthened business infrastructure position it as an increasingly attractive hub for long-term family office investment and intergenerational wealth building.
Abu Dhabi is consolidating its standing as a distinguished global destination for family capital and enduring investment, underpinned by economic resilience, sustained expansion and a flourishing real economy that extends far beyond traditional sectors. This compelling combination affords investors the confidence and foundation to establish enterprises and partnerships designed to flourish across generations.
Ali Mohamed Al Marzooqi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, articulated this positioning during a significant roundtable discussion at the fourth Global Owners and Family Office Congress, convened in the emirate by Campden Wealth in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Family Business Council. The discourse brought together eminent representatives from the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the Abu Dhabi Global Market and KEZAD Group to examine the economic foundations reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s appeal to patient, long-term capital.
Family offices, Mr Al Marzooqi observed, operate within a fundamentally different investment philosophy than conventional financial institutions. “Investment families think in generations, not financial quarters. Abu Dhabi offers what that outlook demands: stability, real growth and partners with whom they can build,” he explained. This generational perspective requires not merely profitable returns, but rather the profound confidence to plan with conviction across decades.
The emirate’s economic fundamentals present a compelling narrative. Non-oil activity expanded at an annual rate exceeding 6 per cent between 2021 and 2024, whilst constituting 54 per cent of GDP by the third quarter of 2025. The United Arab Emirates attracted foreign direct investment totalling 48.3 billion United States dollars in 2025, positioning it ninth globally in this significant metric.
Business activity reflects this confidence tangibly. Abu Dhabi Chamber’s membership has ascended to approximately 174,000 companies from 131,000 in 2021, with membership growth of 10.4 per cent during 2025 and new registrations increasing by 27 per cent. Industry, supply chains, infrastructure, clean energy, digital transformation, tourism and real estate have emerged as particularly promising sectors for patient capital investment rooted in productive assets and economic activity.
ADNOC’s commitment to award 200 billion United Arab Emirates dirhams in new projects between 2026 and 2028, coupled with a pipeline of 24 public-private partnership initiatives valued at 55 billion dirhams and Abu Dhabi’s 13 billion dirhams Digital Strategy, exemplify the scale and sophistication of opportunity available. Beyond their headline values, these investments generate cascading prospects for suppliers, manufacturers, local enterprises and international partners through strengthened value chains and technology transfer.
Abu Dhabi Chamber’s role extends substantially beyond facilitating initial investment establishment. The institution connects investors with essential access to customers, partners, contracts and markets, transforming investment intention into sustained commercial reality. More than 1,000 Chamber members have engaged with business matchmaking programmes, whilst the Procurement Connect initiative illuminates opportunities with government entities and major corporations across more than 170 countries.
The emirate’s established family business community, active across trade, industry, energy, real estate, healthcare, education and hospitality, provides an experienced ecosystem for incoming international family offices. The Abu Dhabi Family Business Council strengthens this foundation through governance frameworks, succession planning and next-generation leadership development.
Abu Dhabi Chamber’s international standing is reinforced through 87 bilateral agreements spanning 47 countries, alongside 32 incoming business delegations and 10 outbound missions during 2025 and 2026. Mr Al Marzooqi extended an invitation to global investors and family offices to regard Abu Dhabi not merely as a wealth management centre, but as a distinguished destination for generating enduring economic value.
