Within the hallowed halls of the National Library and Archives, a milestone of intellectual distinction has been commemorated as the seventeenth cohort of the Professional Certificate in Records and Archives Management has completed their rigorous training. This momentous celebration brings together fifteen accomplished graduates, drawn from ten federal and local institutions across the Emirates, each now equipped with the sophisticated expertise required to preserve and protect the institutional memory that forms the bedrock of our nation’s progress.
The ceremony, held in the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Hall at the National Library and Archives, represents far more than a simple conferment of credentials. It embodies a profound commitment to excellence in stewardship, reflecting the enduring strategic partnership between the National Library and Archives and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. This collaboration stands as a testament to the shared vision of both institutions to cultivate specialised knowledge and elevate the practice of archival science throughout the Emirates.
The programme itself demands considerable dedication from its participants. Over six transformative weeks, the graduates have immersed themselves in a meticulously designed curriculum that seamlessly weaves together rigorous theoretical instruction and hands-on practical application. Guided by a distinguished faculty of experts and seasoned specialists, each participant has been schooled in the most contemporary methodologies and international best practices that govern the preservation, organisation and management of documentary records.
This investment in professionalisation speaks to a deeper truth about institutional governance in the modern era. As organisations throughout Abu Dhabi and beyond grapple with ever-expanding volumes of information, the role of the records manager becomes increasingly vital. These newly graduated specialists are now equipped to implement cutting-edge preservation techniques, manage complex archival systems and ensure that the documentary heritage entrusted to their care remains intact for generations to come.
The graduation of this cohort underscores the National Library and Archives’ unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and advancing professional standards across the region, ensuring that the institutional wisdom of our organisations remains secure, accessible and properly stewarded.
