BEEAH and EKTIFA forge partnership to advance circular economy in Sharjah’s agricultural sector

A strategic cooperation agreement between the waste management authority and the emirate's agricultural establishment signals a commitment to sustainable practices and resource efficiency across the farming and livestock production industries.
BEEAH and the Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Establishment, known as EKTIFA, have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement designed to elevate sustainable waste management practices and foster environmentally responsible operations across Sharjah’s agricultural and livestock production sector.
The partnership represents a confluence of expertise and purpose, bringing together advanced production systems with sophisticated waste management capabilities to create an integrated approach to resource efficiency. By establishing robust frameworks for waste collection, sorting, transportation and management, both entities are advancing Sharjah’s wider circularity objectives whilst supporting national aspirations for sustainable food security.
Dr. Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chief Executive Officer of EKTIFA, characterised the agreement as a pivotal milestone in developing a more integrated and sustainable agricultural and livestock production system. The partnership, he noted, establishes a responsible approach to managing operational waste whilst reinforcing compliance with environmental standards, ultimately contributing to waste reduction and the protection of natural resources for generations to come.
Fahad Ali Shehail, Chief Executive Officer for Sustainability at BEEAH, emphasised the strategic significance of the collaboration. “Guided by robust frameworks and governance standards, we will integrate sustainable waste management practices within Sharjah’s agricultural and livestock industry, including strengthening collection, sorting, and transportation. This partnership reflects our ongoing efforts to support the emirate’s wider circularity objectives whilst underscoring the critical role of waste management in advancing resource security,” he explained.
The agreement delineates clear responsibilities for both parties. EKTIFA will organise waste collection at designated sites, coordinate quantities according to operational schedules and undertake initial waste sorting in accordance with applicable local regulations. BEEAH will assume responsibility for transporting waste from approved collection points across EKTIFA’s projects in Mleiha, maintaining a rigorous schedule whilst ensuring full compliance with professional, environmental and health standards.
The partnership incorporates comprehensive measures to safeguard environmental integrity and public health. BEEAH will implement protocols to prevent waste leakage and minimise odours or pollutants during collection and transportation activities. Waste containers will be cleaned and disinfected regularly using environmentally approved products, in line with stringent health, safety and hygiene requirements.
