Team Abu Dhabi, representing the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy, has claimed five top-three finishes across four classes at the 15th edition of Mussanah Race Week, a distinguished international sailing championship organised by Oman Sail at Barceló Mussanah Resort. The competition attracted more than 100 sailors representing seven nations, affirming its standing as a significant event within the competitive sailing calendar.
Demonstrating exceptional prowess, Abdulrahman Al Bahri claimed the male standings in the ILCA 4 class, whilst Simeon Hristov and Mohammed Abdulkarim Al Hammadi secured the first and second positions respectively in the male standings of the ILCA 6 classification. Theyab Al Mehairi and Hamza Al Ali contributed further to the team’s success with third place finishes in the Optimist and ILCA 7 classes respectively, with the latter concluding three points behind the leaders.
The impressive results emerged from a comprehensive competition programme comprising 12 races in each class, underscoring Team Abu Dhabi’s consistent competitive presence across the Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 disciplines. The team fielded 15 sailors in pursuit of ambitious results and to reinforce its standing within international sailing competitions, building upon the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy’s established participation in prominent sailing championships.
The regatta brought together competitors from the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Tunisia and India, whilst coinciding with the third Arab Women’s Sailing Championship, which featured competition across the Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes.
Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club Academy, observed that the results reflect the academy’s commitment to cultivating a new generation of sailors. “We continue to support our talented athletes through training and participation in championships,” he noted, “enabling them to compete for titles and fly the UAE flag on the international stage.”
