A Family Celebration in Sound

A Family Celebration in Sound

Every family carries within it a collection of singular moments: a milestone reached, a partnership forged, a bond deepened. The National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates gathers these sentiments and reimagines them through music, crafting an evening that speaks to the poetry of kinship and shared time.

The programme weaves together compositions both classical and deeply personal. Johann Strauss II’s Pizzicato Polka dances alongside his father’s March Radetzky, the generations represented in counterpoint. Edvard Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen emerges as a tender anchor: originally composed for solo piano, this piece was written to mark the composer’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, making it a meditation on enduring love and fidelity. Works by George Bizet and Antonin Dvořák complete the evening, each bringing its own emotional resonance to the gathering.

What distinguishes this concert is its architectural thoughtfulness. The evening holds space for a melody dedicated to a daughter, for the particular intimacy of a sister-and-brother duet, and for a new composition written by twin brothers: works that acknowledge how family expresses itself through proximity and mirror image, through devotion and creative collaboration.

The Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi, a gathering place for the city’s cultural life, opens its doors on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at 6:30 in the evening. This is an occasion designed for families to experience the orchestra together, generations sitting close, listening to the language that bridges all ages: music itself.
