The Pianist’s Platform

The Pianist’s Platform

There exists a particular magic in the moment when a musician’s own composition meets a live orchestra for the first time before an audience. It is the convergence of vision, craft and courage, and it is precisely this experience that the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation has cultivated across three decades of devoted cultural stewardship.

Hamad Al Taee, an Emirati pianist and composer, embodies the Foundation’s enduring commitment to nurturing indigenous musical talent. His journey with the institution reveals how institutional vision transforms into tangible opportunity: original compositions, orchestral collaboration, and the profound privilege of meaningful dialogue with an audience.

At Festival in the Park in 2023, Al Taee performed a selection of his original piano compositions accompanied by a live orchestra as part of the “Emirati Artists on Stage” programme. The performance captured something essential about the Foundation’s philosophy. Beyond the ceremonial or the occasional, it offers Emirati musicians a genuine platform for original work, the invaluable experience of collaborative performance, and the connective tissue between artist and listener that sustains creative life.

This year, as the Foundation marks thirty years of connecting cultures through music and the arts, such stories form the backbone of its legacy. The celebration, known as ADMAF30, honours not merely the institution itself, but the musicians, artists and creators whose voices have found expression and resonance through its programmes and stages.

The Foundation’s mission remains constant: to provide the conditions under which Emirati artists might not merely participate in cultural discourse, but lead it. Through platforms like Festival in the Park, through ensemble work and collaboration, through the space granted to original composition, the Foundation recognises that cultural flourishing depends upon genuine opportunity, patient institutional support, and the belief that local voices merit prominence and resources.

Al Taee’s piano, his orchestral collaborators, the audiences who gathered to listen: these are the instruments through which the Foundation’s three decades of work continue to resonate across Abu Dhabi’s cultural landscape.
