UAE establishes diplomatic presence in Togo with ambassador’s official credentials

Ghanem Issa Al Falahi has presented his credentials as Ambassador of the UAE to the Republic of Togo, formalising the relationship between the two nations and opening new pathways for cooperation across multiple sectors.
In Lomé, the capital of Togo, a formal ceremony marked a significant moment in the diplomatic relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the West African nation. Ghanem Issa Al Falahi, the newly appointed Ambassador, presented his credentials to Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové, President of the Republic of Togo, at the Presidential Palace, establishing the official framework for bilateral engagement.
Ambassador Al Falahi conveyed warm greetings from the leadership of the UAE: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court. These messages carried with them the wishes of the UAE leadership for progress and prosperity for Togo and its people.
President Savi de Tové reciprocated the diplomatic courtesy, sending his own greetings to the same leadership and expressing his country’s desire for further development and prosperity for the UAE. He extended his wishes for Ambassador Al Falahi’s success in his mission, affirming Togo’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of ties between the two nations across various domains of cooperation.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to explore avenues of mutual benefit. Discussions centred on areas where collaboration could flourish, with both nations recognising the potential for enhanced engagement that would serve the aspirations of their respective peoples. Ambassador Al Falahi expressed his pride in representing the UAE on the continent, pledging his dedication to building stronger connections that would advance cooperation in diverse sectors.
This appointment forms part of a broader pattern of UAE diplomatic expansion and engagement across Africa. As reported previously, newly appointed UAE ambassadors took the oath of office before UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in September, reflecting the careful selection and preparation of diplomatic representatives who carry forward the nation’s values and vision on the global stage.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The establishment of a UAE embassy in Togo strengthens the UAE’s diplomatic footprint across the African continent and opens commercial and cultural channels with a strategic West African nation. This formal representation signals the UAE’s commitment to building meaningful relationships beyond traditional economic partners, fostering dialogue and cooperation that extends to governance, trade, education and humanitarian initiatives.
For Abu Dhabi itself, the expansion of diplomatic missions reflects the emirate’s role as the capital of a nation increasingly engaged in global affairs. The diplomatic corps represents not only political interests but also the values of tolerance, innovation and inclusive growth that define the UAE’s international identity, contributing to the broader narrative of the nation as a bridge between regions and cultures.
