How Dubai’s Content Creators are Learning to Tell the Emirate’s Story to the World

How Dubai's Content Creators are Learning to Tell the Emirate's Story to the World

A two-week intensive programme has equipped a new generation of digital storytellers with the skills to convey Dubai's distinctive narrative as a global hub for business, innovation and tourism.

The art of storytelling has never been more vital to a city’s identity. In Dubai, where the intersection of enterprise, creativity and opportunity defines the urban landscape, a carefully calibrated programme has recently concluded its latest phase, arming content creators with the sophisticated tools needed to communicate the emirate’s multifaceted appeal to audiences worldwide.

The Dubai Content Creators Programme, a collaborative initiative between the Dubai Press Club and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, brought together digital storytellers for an intensive fortnight of sessions and workshops designed to deepen their understanding of how to craft narratives that resonate internationally. The curriculum moved beyond the mechanics of content production to explore the deeper art of connecting authenticity with ambition.

Maryam Al Mulla, Director of the Dubai Press Club, reflected on the programme’s significance: “Dubai has an inspiring success story to share with the world, from its economic and tourism achievements to the opportunities it offers people pursuing their ambitions. Content creators are essential partners in telling this story and showcasing the emirate’s supportive environment for business, creativity and innovation.” She emphasised that participants were equipped with practical tools and a deeper understanding of Dubai’s key sectors to help them produce nuanced, well-informed content that connects across cultural boundaries.

The programme’s curriculum reflected a sophisticated approach to modern content creation. A session on narrative crafting in tourism, delivered by content creator Balqis Beki, explored the art of transforming travel experiences into layered stories that incorporate cultural, human and environmental dimensions. In parallel, Velum.ai offered guidance on artificial intelligence as a creative collaborator, examining how technology might enhance rather than diminish individual artistic voice. The Dubai Media Academy’s technical training on video editing and post-production addressed the practical discipline of visual storytelling, while Beautiful Destinations Academy’s closing session on visual identity and culturally tailored messaging recognised that global audiences require particular attentiveness to nuance and perspective.

Aida Al Busaidy, Vice President of Social and Consumer Advocacy at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, underscored the broader purpose of the initiative: “Content creators play an important role in bringing these opportunities to life through authentic stories, experiences and perspectives that reflect the emirate’s distinctive character, allowing audiences to discover the destination and form expectations before they travel.” This emphasis on authenticity marks a departure from conventional promotional messaging, instead positioning creators as cultural interpreters who can communicate Dubai’s complexity and appeal through their own distinct voices.

The programme builds on partnerships forged between Dubai bodies and the United Arab Emirates University, expanding the infrastructure for developing practical media talent across the emirates. What began as a strategic initiative to enhance digital storytelling has evolved into a comprehensive ecosystem supporting creators at various stages of their practice.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The success of Dubai’s systematic approach to content creator development offers valuable lessons for Abu Dhabi and the broader emirate ecosystem. By recognising that how a region tells its story matters as much as the substance of that story, the programme demonstrates the strategic value of investing in digital literacy and authentic narrative capacity among creative professionals. This model emphasises collaboration between cultural institutions, government bodies and educational partners, a framework increasingly relevant to Abu Dhabi’s own cultural and economic positioning.

For Abu Dhabi specifically, the initiative highlights the importance of cultivating homegrown digital talent who understand local context and can communicate regional achievements with credibility to international audiences. As the UAE continues to shape its global narrative across tourism, investment and cultural exchange, the skills and perspectives developed through programmes like this become integral to how the emirates project their identity and values into an increasingly digital world.
