The United Arab Emirates and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have held their third round of political consultations in Hanoi, affirming the robust partnership that has flourished between the two nations. The meeting, co-chaired by Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, and Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, reflected a deepening alignment on matters of mutual prosperity and shared vision.
Both delegations reaffirmed the strong and growing ties that bind the two countries, grounded in mutual trust and longstanding friendship. The elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Partnership in October 2024 marked a significant milestone, one that both sides remain committed to building upon through regular high-level engagement. The recent entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has opened new avenues for trade and investment, with both nations emphasising the importance of effective implementation to strengthen economic ties.
The discussions explored opportunities across priority sectors where the UAE and Vietnam recognise mutual benefit: trade, investment, renewable energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and food security. These conversations reflect a shared understanding that economic growth and sustainable development serve the interests of both nations and their peoples.
Both sides stressed their commitment to strengthening coordination in regional and multilateral forums, including through the United Nations, ASEAN and BRICS, recognising the importance of collective action on matters of global significance. They exchanged perspectives on regional and international developments, particularly across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace, security and stability through dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law.
Prior to the formal consultations, Omran Sharaf engaged with senior representatives of several leading Vietnamese businesses, including VinFast and Viettel, to explore opportunities for cooperation that might yield mutual benefit. The Assistant Foreign Minister was accompanied by Bader Al Matrooshi, UAE Ambassador to Vietnam, along with representatives from relevant UAE entities.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
These consultations underscore the UAE’s strategic engagement across Asia and its commitment to forging partnerships that extend beyond bilateral relations. Vietnam represents an important economic and geopolitical partner in Southeast Asia, a region of growing significance for the Emirates’ vision of diversified international cooperation and investment.
The emphasis on renewable energy, artificial intelligence and digital transformation reflects priorities that align closely with Abu Dhabi’s own development agenda. Deepened cooperation with Vietnam in these sectors creates opportunities for knowledge exchange, technological innovation and business growth that benefit the emirates and strengthen the nation’s position as a leader in emerging technologies and sustainable development.
