United Nations reviews UAE’s humanitarian medical operations in Rafah

A delegation from the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs visited the UAE field hospital in Rafah to assess its medical capabilities and strengthen coordination on patient care.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has conducted a comprehensive review of the UAE field hospital operating in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, examining the medical infrastructure and treatment services that form part of the Emirates’ sustained humanitarian commitment to the region.

During the visit, OCHA representatives were introduced to the hospital’s medical capabilities and its deployment of advanced equipment. Discussions centred on strengthening the operational coordination between international bodies and the facility’s management, with particular focus on streamlining patient admission processes and expanding access to the healthcare services available.

Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Director of the UAE field hospital, outlined the facility’s operational readiness. The hospital operates with specialised medical personnel and is equipped with advanced medical technology alongside comprehensive supplies of medicines and treatment materials. This infrastructure enables the provision of comprehensive healthcare services tailored to meet the diverse needs of patients seeking care.

Keith Stanski, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, reaffirmed OCHA’s commitment to deepening cooperation and coordination with the hospital’s management. He emphasised particular attention to supporting access for vulnerable populations, notably women and children, ensuring they benefit fully from the examinations, treatment and medical care the facility provides.

The visit reflects broader efforts to strengthen humanitarian cooperation between the UAE and international organisations. As we reported in October, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 continues to sustain comprehensive medical support across Gaza, with the UAE delivering thousands of treatments alongside medical supplies and rehabilitation services. This latest engagement with OCHA reinforces the coordination mechanisms essential to scaling these efforts across the region.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

The visit underscores Abu Dhabi’s role as a leading humanitarian actor on the international stage. By facilitating dialogue between UN bodies and its field operations, the Emirates strengthens its position within the global humanitarian framework, demonstrating commitment to structured, coordinated assistance that meets international standards of care and accessibility.

For the people of the Gaza Strip, enhanced coordination between the UAE field hospital and OCHA represents improved pathways to medical care. The visit signals that humanitarian efforts are being integrated into broader international relief mechanisms, potentially expanding the reach and impact of services already being provided through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3.
