Dubai Electricity and Water Authority honours its workforce across professional, administrative and institutional categories, reinforcing a culture of innovation and excellence that underpins the emirate's energy and water security.
At the heart of DEWA’s continued ascent as a global utility leader lies a simple truth: the organisation’s greatest asset walks through its doors each day. On 4th November, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, gathered 417 distinguished employees at Al Shera’a, DEWA’s headquarters, to honour their contributions across a spectrum of excellence categories spanning professional achievement, administrative innovation and institutional impact.
The Nujoom DEWA Internal Excellence Awards ceremony represents far more than ceremonial recognition. It embodies a deliberate institutional commitment to nurturing talent and fostering the culture of innovation and responsibility that has positioned DEWA among the world’s leading utilities. Al Tayer spoke of how these employees embody the values that matter most: excellence, innovation and a deep sense of responsibility towards the communities they serve.
The awards themselves span an impressive breadth of achievement. Across eleven professional excellence categories, five administrative categories and two institutional excellence categories, DEWA recognised not only individual brilliance but also the collective endeavour that drives organisational success. Additional recognition extended to winners of the Share K Award, the Loyalty Award, the Health and Safety Award and the Best Consumption Performance Monitoring Team Award, alongside graduates of the fourth and fifth batches of the Field and Excellence Experts Capacity Building Programme.
The professional categories celebrated Distinguished Supervisory Employees, Distinguished Administrative Employees, Innovative Employees, Distinguished Specialised Employees and Distinguished Technical and Engineering Employees, alongside recognition for Distinguished Youth Employees, Distinguished Field Employees and Distinguished Customer Happiness Employees. The administrative excellence categories focused on innovative initiatives, technical and technological projects, sustainability, corporate agility, and data science and artificial intelligence, reflecting DEWA’s strategic prioritisation of digital transformation and environmental stewardship.
Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, characterised the awards as consolidating a culture of institutional excellence and encouraging positive competition among employees and sectors. These honours, he noted, highlight leading individual and institutional practices whilst strengthening DEWA’s readiness to compete in major local, regional and international forums. As DEWA International forges strategic partnerships spanning renewable energy and desalination, the calibre of its workforce becomes ever more central to these ambitious endeavours.
Al Tayer addressed the honourees directly, framing recognition not merely as celebration of past achievement but as an invitation to continue innovating, inspiring colleagues and promoting a culture of continuous development. This perspective reflects a deeper truth: excellence is not a destination but a discipline, and the organisations that sustain it are those that recognise and reward it relentlessly.
The recognition extends beyond individual categories. The Environmental Excellence Award for 2025 acknowledged institutional commitment to sustainability, whilst the sectors providing the happiest work environment for both large and small divisions received special honour. This multifaceted approach underscores DEWA’s belief that human capital is the primary driver of success and that outstanding talent remains fundamental to achieving its vision as a globally leading sustainable and innovative corporation committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
These awards represent a pivotal moment in DEWA’s evolution as a utility and as an employer. By recognising 417 employees across multiple dimensions of excellence, DEWA signals to its workforce that innovation, sustainability and customer focus are not merely stated values but lived priorities. This institutional recognition strengthens employee commitment and retention, ensuring continuity of expertise and institutional knowledge at a time when global energy and water challenges demand increasingly sophisticated responses.
For Abu Dhabi more broadly, the ceremony affirms that the emirate’s infrastructure excellence rests upon the dedication and ingenuity of its workforce. As DEWA pursues ambitious targets around renewable energy, digital transformation and environmental stewardship, the quality and motivation of its 417 honoured employees directly translates into the reliability, efficiency and innovation that underpin daily life across the emirate. The culture of excellence that Nujoom celebrates is not confined to DEWA; it resonates as a model for institutional excellence across Abu Dhabi’s public sector.
