A landmark collaboration between two major national energy corporations signals a deepening commitment to integrated gas infrastructure across the Emirates, enhancing supply security and operational flexibility.
The intricate architecture of the UAE’s energy system grew more robust on Friday with the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement between ADNOC Gas plc and Sharjah National Oil Corporation. The partnership represents a considered convergence of complementary capabilities, drawing together established infrastructure in Sharjah with ADNOC Gas’s expansive modernisation programme to create a more resilient and efficient national gas network.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation across multiple dimensions of gas operations: storage and processing facilities, long-term supply arrangements and the associated infrastructure, alongside trading in liquefied petroleum gas and downstream products. This multifaceted approach acknowledges that energy security in a rapidly developing economy requires not merely abundant supply, but sophisticated systems for moving, processing and storing gas with maximum flexibility and minimum disruption.
Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, observed that the partnership would unlock greater value by strengthening the movement, processing and storage of gas while reinforcing security of supply. Her counterpart at SNOC, Khamis Al Mazrouei, emphasised how Sharjah’s established infrastructure complemented ADNOC Gas’s expansion plans, creating opportunities to improve operational efficiency and attract investment in LPG and downstream activities that would strengthen Sharjah’s position within the UAE’s energy sector.
This collaboration arrives at a moment of significant momentum within ADNOC Gas’s growth trajectory. The company is executing one of the world’s largest integrated gas development programmes, encompassing two substantial initiatives: Rich Gas Development, which will expand processing capacity and increase natural gas availability for domestic customers, and Estidama, which will optimise and modernise ADNOC Gas’s pipeline network to support growing demand across the Emirates. These projects collectively aim to strengthen the infrastructure required to connect additional gas supply with existing and future customers, supporting the UAE’s continued industrial expansion and long-term energy needs across both domestic and international markets.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
The agreement reinforces Abu Dhabi’s strategic position as the energy cornerstone of the UAE, demonstrating how coordinated investment across the Emirates enhances the resilience of the national system. By improving flexibility in gas supply and storage, this collaboration supports not only industrial growth but also the reliable energy supply that underpins the quality of life for residents across the UAE.
The partnership also signals confidence in the long-term energy outlook. As ADNOC Gas expands domestic supply through major infrastructure projects, closer coordination with regional partners ensures that growing demand can be met efficiently, while the integration of LPG and downstream activities creates additional economic value within the broader energy sector. This deepening of institutional cooperation exemplifies how the UAE’s energy strategy continues to evolve, responding to the needs of a dynamic and growing economy.
