UAE Security Forces Dismantle International Drug Trafficking Network, Seizing 200,000 Captagon Pills and 30kg of Narcotics

In a coordinated operation spanning multiple emirates and international borders, authorities have arrested 20 suspects and prevented a major smuggling attempt, underscoring the nation's unwavering commitment to combating cross-border narcotics trafficking.

The National Drug Enforcement Authority, working in concert with police forces across the emirates and Iraqi counterparts, has dismantled an international criminal network operating across multiple continents. The operation, completed in early November, resulted in the seizure of 200,000 Captagon pills alongside more than 30 kilogrammes of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, hashish and synthetic cannabinoids known as Spice.

The network comprised 20 suspects of Gulf, Arab, African and Asian nationalities, coordinated to smuggle narcotics through a border area in Ras Al Khaimah for distribution throughout the country. Intelligence shared between UAE and Iraqi authorities formed the foundation of the investigation, allowing security teams to develop a comprehensive strategy that would ultimately thwart the operation. Several members were apprehended whilst attempting to cross the border with the contraband, whilst remaining suspects were arrested during coordinated ambushes executed across the emirates.

The operation reflects the sophisticated capabilities now embedded within UAE security agencies. As we reported in earlier coordinated efforts, UAE security authorities have consistently demonstrated their ability to intercept significant quantities of narcotics through intelligence cooperation and advanced detection technologies. The National Drug Enforcement Authority emphasised that the nation remains an inhospitable destination for drug trafficking networks, and that those who attempt to compromise national security or endanger public safety will encounter the full force of the justice system.

The success underscores the value of regional cooperation and intelligence sharing in addressing transnational crime. Officials noted that the operation showcased not only the advanced surveillance and investigative capabilities of the country’s security apparatus, but also the vital coordination between judicial authorities, local police forces and international partners in combating the movement of illicit substances across borders.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

For Abu Dhabi and the broader emirate of the United Arab Emirates, this operation represents a tangible demonstration of institutional commitment to public safety. The dismantling of such a network, prior to the introduction of dangerous substances into communities, reflects the priority placed by leadership and security forces on protecting residents from the harms associated with narcotics trafficking.

The National Drug Enforcement Authority has called upon the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities, recognising that effective combating of narcotics requires partnership between communities and security agencies. The ongoing success of such operations depends upon the continued cooperation and trust between residents and the institutions sworn to protect them.
