Crown Prince Khaled meets Citigroup chair to explore banking cooperation

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed held talks with Jane Fraser of Citigroup in Abu Dhabi to discuss deeper collaboration on banking solutions to support sustainable economic growth.

Abu Dhabi, 14th September 2026 — H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, met Jane Fraser, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup, for discussions aimed at strengthening ties between Abu Dhabi and the global banking sector.

Focus on financial solutions and business efficiency

The meeting explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the banking sector and to develop financial solutions intended to improve the efficiency of the business ecosystem. According to the agenda, the discussions emphasised mechanisms that could support sustainable growth across a range of economic sectors in Abu Dhabi.

Citigroup, a global investment bank and financial services company, was represented at the leadership level by Ms Fraser; the Abu Dhabi delegation included Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, and Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Office of the Crown Prince. Their participation underlined the emirate’s interest in aligning international financial expertise with local economic objectives.

While the meeting did not disclose detailed initiatives or timelines, it fits a broader pattern of Abu Dhabi engaging international financial institutions to attract capital, deepen financial markets and craft bespoke products that meet the needs of both private enterprise and strategic sectors. Such engagements are typically aimed at improving access to capital, facilitating cross-border investment and supporting projects that contribute to long-term economic diversification.

For Abu Dhabi, ties with global banks can play a practical role in advancing the emirate’s economic agenda by providing expertise in areas such as investment banking, corporate finance, capital markets and risk management. Collaboration of this kind may also support the development of tailored financial instruments to fund infrastructure, technology, energy transition and other priority sectors.

The meeting follows a series of high-level engagements between Abu Dhabi’s leadership and international financial institutions intended to broaden the emirate’s investor base and strengthen the resilience of its financial ecosystem.
