Sharjah University Majors Exhibition draws Abu Dhabi universities including Khalifa, MBZUH and Al Ain University

The eighth University Majors Exhibition in Sharjah runs to 29 September, offering 36 sessions, an interactive ‘Miqyas’ skills assessment and stands from several Abu Dhabi institutions.

Abu Dhabi institutions among 23 participants at Sharjah careers fair

Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL) opened the eighth University Majors Exhibition on Monday at the Sharjah Book Authority headquarters, bringing together 23 universities and academic bodies to help students map out majors, admissions, scholarships and career pathways. The event runs until 29 September and features 36 sessions and workshops across two programme tracks.

The exhibition is held under the theme “Path to the Future: Where Ambition Meets Achievement” and introduces Miqyas, an interactive assessment that helps students identify their skills and match them to suitable majors and careers. On its first day the fair welcomed 924 female students who attended sessions, visited university stands and used the interactive tools.

Speakers at the opening included Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of Sharjah Book Authority, Staff Colonel Sultan Ahmed Al Ali from Zayed Military University, and Eman Bushlaibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries. The programme is organised into two strands: “Future Dialogues”, focused on broader career and skills themes, and “Pulse of the Major”, which concentrates on specific academic disciplines and decision-making.

Sessions on the inaugural day under “Future Dialogues” included “My Journey to Professional Excellence” presented by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) Youth Council, and “How My Major Shaped My Future” from the Sharjah Department of Human Resources. Hadeel Abu Hijleh of the University of Sharjah spoke on “Gateway to Global Scholarships”.

Under “Pulse of the Major”, Dr Khaled Al-Daqani of the University of Sharjah delivered “Towards an Informed University Choice”, while Dr Faisal Al-Matalka of University of Fujairah led “Build Your Career Path”. The programme also featured “A Guide to Majors and Careers”, presented by Dr Tarek Diaaeldin.

Sessions over the course of the exhibition will address future skills, academic success, admissions and scholarships, academic decision-making, the transition to university and the impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on disciplines and careers. An electronic Visitor Guide shows stand locations and services, and dedicated interactive screens provide access to Miqyas assessments.

Several Abu Dhabi-based institutions are taking part, including Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, Khalifa University, Zayed University, Zayed Military University and Al Ain University, offering Abu Dhabi students direct access to information on programmes and entry requirements. SPL is also showcasing its print and digital resources and study spaces, and is offering a 50% discount on membership fees for the duration of the exhibition.
