Sharjah Ruler Approves Al Freish Lake Development in Kalba

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has given approval for a substantial waterfront recreation project designed to enhance leisure amenities and environmental appeal in Kalba.

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved plans for the development of Al Freish Lake in Kalba, marking a significant investment in the emirate’s recreational infrastructure and environmental enrichment.

The ambitious project encompasses approximately 51,200 square metres and will incorporate a sophisticated water storage facility with capacity reaching 28 million gallons. The development will also feature 200 dedicated parking spaces to accommodate visitors, reflecting careful consideration of accessibility and visitor experience.

Situated behind Al Marsh Square, the lake project extends roughly 750 metres in length and will function as a verdant family destination comparable to the acclaimed Al Rafisah Dam initiative. His Highness emphasised the multifaceted benefits of the endeavour, noting that comprehensive landscaping efforts are already underway on the mountainous terrain bordering the development. Native trees are being systematically planted throughout the area, whilst natural waterfalls will cascade through the vegetation before flowing toward the sea, creating an integrated landscape that harmonises human recreation with natural beauty.

The design philosophy prioritises accessibility and wellbeing, enabling visitors to enjoy parking facilities, leisurely walks and recreational activities within an environment that celebrates Sharjah’s natural topography. The project represents the emirate’s commitment to developing public spaces that serve families whilst respecting environmental stewardship and sustainable design principles.
