UAE and Egypt Forge Chess Arbiters Partnership
The UAE Chess Federation and its Egyptian counterpart have established a cooperation agreement to enhance the professional development and international opportunities of arbiters from both nations.
A significant milestone in chess diplomacy has been achieved with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the UAE Chess Federation and the Egyptian Chess Federation. The accord was formalised on Tuesday evening in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, during the Chess Olympiad, bringing together two of the region’s most prominent chess authorities.
Saeed Al Khouri, Chairman of the Arbiters Committee of the UAE Chess Federation, and Karim Wagih, General Supervisor of the Egyptian Chess Federation, signed the agreement in the presence of Abdullah Hassan, Secretary-General of the UAE Chess Federation, and George Samir, Vice President of the Egyptian Chess Federation.
The partnership represents a commitment to elevating standards of chess administration across the Gulf and North Africa. Through structured cooperation, arbiters from both the Emirates and Egypt will benefit from enriched opportunities to officiate at diverse international tournaments, whilst fostering the exchange of professional knowledge and best practices that strengthen competency across both federations.
A particularly noteworthy provision of the agreement grants Emirati arbiters the opportunity to officiate at the World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships for boys and girls, scheduled to be held in Cairo during December. This initiative will enable participants from the UAE to gain invaluable practical experience at a prestigious global event, further enhancing their professional credentials and contributing to the development of young talent on the international stage.
The agreement underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering excellence within the chess community and strengthening collaborative ties with regional partners. By facilitating the mobility and professional development of arbiters, both nations position themselves as serious custodians of chess administration excellence, enhancing the sport’s standing throughout the region.
