SEWA Completes Major Electricity Transmission Projects Worth AED341.493 Million
Sharjah's utility authority has successfully delivered two significant 220/132 kV transmission infrastructure projects, with thirteen additional major developments underway to support the emirate's continued growth.
Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has marked a significant milestone in its infrastructure development programme with the completion of two substantial 220/132 kilovolt electricity transmission projects valued at AED341.493 million. These achievements underscore the authority’s dedication to strengthening Sharjah’s power network in response to the emirate’s dynamic urban and industrial expansion.
The completed initiatives represent a critical phase in SEWA’s long-term strategic vision to enhance electricity supply reliability and network resilience. The projects have been executed in accordance with the forward-thinking directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the continued oversight of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
Infrastructure Excellence and Innovation
Hamad Al Tunaiji, Director of the Power Transmission Department at SEWA, emphasised that these developments reflect the authority’s commitment to implementing cutting-edge technologies and sophisticated control systems. The projects have been carefully designed to ensure rapid response capabilities, elevated safety standards and enhanced operational security across Sharjah’s transmission infrastructure.
The completed Airport Project involved the installation of 132 kilovolt underground cables connecting seven principal substations across a distance of 71.7 kilometres at a cost of AED235 million. Additionally, SEWA has successfully upgraded 220 kilovolt overhead transmission lines in a separate project valued at AED106.493 million.
Sustained Development Pipeline
Under the leadership of Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of SEWA, and Abdullah Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, Director-General of SEWA, the authority continues to advance thirteen substantial projects with a combined investment exceeding AED725.292 million. These initiatives are strategically designed to supply newly developed residential, commercial and industrial zones with dependable electricity services whilst reducing operational demands on existing substations.
Key projects currently progressing include the 220 kilovolt Al Shanouf substation (AED218.143 million), the 132 kilovolt Al Ghubaiba substation (AED230.840 million) and the 132 kilovolt Al Nahda substation (AED203.698 million). The Al Shanouf transmission line rerouting project, involving the relocation of 13.4 kilometres of overhead infrastructure at a cost of AED72.610 million, represents another significant component of this comprehensive development strategy.
Abdullah Al Kous, Deputy Director of the Power Transmission Department, confirmed that work teams are operating according to carefully established schedules to ensure timely completion and seamless integration with Sharjah’s main electrical grid. These complementary infrastructure investments are expected to substantially enhance the emirate’s power transmission network capacity and operational efficiency, positioning Sharjah to meet anticipated energy requirements across all regions for years to come.
