Abu Dhabi hosts Arab Monetary Fund’s Golden Jubilee and historic finance ministers council

The UAE capital will welcome Arab finance ministers and global financial institutions to celebrate five decades of regional monetary cooperation and chart the Fund's future strategic direction.
Abu Dhabi is preparing to host a significant celebration marking fifty years since the establishment of the Arab Monetary Fund, alongside the 17th Ordinary Session of the Council of Arab Finance Ministers. The events will take place on 28th and 29th September, convened under the theme “Fifty Years of Arab Financial Cooperation… Together Towards a More Integrated Arab Financial Future.”
The gatherings will bring together Arab finance ministers and representatives from prominent international and regional financial institutions, including the World Bank Group and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Dr. Fahad M. Alturki, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of the Arab Monetary Fund, described the occasion as a historic milestone reflecting five decades of dedication to advancing economic and financial development across member states. Throughout its existence, the Fund has provided more than US$11 billion in financing to support economic and financial stability, whilst delivering over 400 training programmes that have benefited more than 20,000 participants from across the Arab world.
Looking forward, the Fund’s new strategic direction prioritises sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, financial inclusion and capacity development. These priorities aim to strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of Arab economies, enhancing their capacity to address challenges and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
The Council of Arab Finance Ministers will examine reports from its Secretariat and receive specialised technical presentations on artificial intelligence applications in fiscal policy and public finance. The agenda further includes a World Bank Group paper addressing sustainable financing for infrastructure development, alongside discussions on the latest standards regarding Base Erosion and Profit Shifting.
A high-level roundtable on 29th September entitled “Macroeconomic Resilience amid Geopolitical Disruptions” will focus on mechanisms for coordinating fiscal and monetary policies during crises. The programme will conclude with an official celebration featuring a documentary chronicling the Fund’s key milestones and a special recognition ceremony honouring its founders and principal contributors.
