Fujairah Municipality and Etihad Rail Progress Second-Phase Railway Development
Strategic coordination advances plans to integrate the railway network with the emirate's urban development and infrastructure objectives
Fujairah Municipality and Etihad Rail have advanced collaborative planning for the second phase of the railway development project, following a comprehensive coordination meeting between the two organisations.
The meeting focused on reviewing future development prospects for the railway route and examining progress on the project’s next phase, alongside establishing enhanced coordination and cooperation frameworks for routes and areas across Fujairah connected to the initiative.
Discussions centred on the critical importance of harmonising the railway infrastructure with the emirate’s established urban development and infrastructure strategies. This integrated approach aims to strengthen the efficiency of the broader transport network, facilitate the seamless movement of both passengers and freight, and ensure robust connectivity linking residential communities with key commercial, economic and logistics centres.
Eng. Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Director-General of Fujairah Municipality, emphasised the strategic significance of the railway project within the emirate’s comprehensive transport ecosystem. He outlined how the railway network development would stimulate investment attraction whilst supporting the economic, commercial, tourism and logistics sectors. The expansion is expected to consolidate Fujairah’s position as a significant hub for regional trade and service provision.
The project aligns with the UAE’s strategic commitment to advancing sustainable transport infrastructure. Both organisations reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining coordination throughout forthcoming implementation phases, ensuring synchronisation with Fujairah’s development objectives and the nation’s broader ambitions for sustainable transport solutions and integrated economic and urban development.
