SEWA Advances Central Region Natural Gas Expansion with Four Strategic Projects

Sharjah's utility authority invests over AED18.8 million to modernise its gas infrastructure, bringing reliable energy to residential, commercial and industrial communities across the emirate's central zone.

Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is progressing with an ambitious programme to extend and enhance natural gas distribution across the Central Region, reflecting the emirate’s commitment to delivering sustainable energy infrastructure that serves growing population and economic needs.

The initiative encompasses four major projects totalling over AED18.838 million in investment, designed to upgrade service quality and ensure safe, affordable energy access to residents and businesses across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

Phased Pipeline Development

The flagship undertaking involves the second phase of the Al Bataeh gas pipeline extension, a 27-kilometre project valued at AED7.73 million. This initiative will connect supply routes to Al Dhaid and complete the distribution loop around the Tal Al Zaafaran neighbourhood, with construction now 70% complete and anticipated completion in November 2026.

Engineer Ibrahim Al Balghouni, Director of the Natural Gas Department at SEWA, outlined the comprehensive development strategy being pursued across multiple areas. The Al Dhaid City network development project, valued at AED5.25 million and spanning 63,574 metres, will serve 286 buildings in Tal Al Zaafaran and 164 properties in Jebel Omar, addressing existing infrastructure gaps in these growing communities.

Additional Expansion Phases

Two further projects will extend gas access to additional neighbourhoods. The Al Hisn 1 area project, valued at AED3.158 million and covering 30.3 kilometres, is in the approval stage with relevant authorities and is scheduled for completion by June 2027. Meanwhile, the Al Sweih area development, a AED2.7 million initiative spanning 27 kilometres, is targeted for completion by July 2027.

According to Al Balghouni, these investments represent a cornerstone of SEWA’s strategic vision to provide clean and cost-effective energy solutions throughout Sharjah. The expansion programme reflects the authority’s commitment to supporting residents and businesses through enhanced service infrastructure whilst maintaining operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

SEWA continues to coordinate closely with government partners to ensure timely project delivery and seamless integration of new infrastructure with existing networks, underscoring the collaborative approach that characterises utility development across the emirate.
