Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Advances UAE Diplomacy at UN General Assembly

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conducted a series of strategic bilateral meetings in New York, strengthening partnerships across multiple sectors and signing landmark cooperation agreements.

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, undertook a comprehensive diplomatic programme in New York, meeting with foreign ministers from across the globe to advance the UAE’s international agenda.

The Deputy Prime Minister held substantive discussions with counterparts from Moldova, Venezuela, Uganda, Nigeria and Mexico, exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation spanning economic partnerships, trade and investment, food security, cultural exchange, educational collaboration, healthcare initiatives, artificial intelligence, cutting-edge technology, renewable energy and climate action. These conversations also encompassed broader regional and international developments of mutual concern.

A particularly significant outcome emerged from His Highness’s engagement with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn. The two nations formalised their commitment to deeper ties through a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations, signed by Saeed Al Hajeri, Minister of State, representing the UAE.

The diplomatic mission yielded further tangible results through additional bilateral agreements. His Highness witnessed the signing of an academic cooperation memorandum between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whilst also overseeing the execution of three critical instruments with El Salvador: a collaboration agreement between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and El Salvador’s Diplomatic Institute, alongside a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and an Investment Protection Agreement.

Discussions also addressed preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which the UAE will host in partnership with Senegal from 8th to 10th December, underlining the nation’s leadership on critical global sustainability matters.

Throughout the meetings, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast commitment to expanding international cooperation, fostering constructive dialogue and cultivating partnerships that advance comprehensive and sustainable development across the global community.

The delegation included Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of Health and Prevention; Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations.
