ASEAN Prosecutors Showcase Regional Crime-Fighting Expertise at Abu Dhabi UN Congress
Southeast Asian prosecution authorities are presenting their coordinated approach to combating transnational organised crime at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, whilst exploring enhanced partnerships with international counterparts.
The ASEAN Prosecutors-General Meeting (APAGM) is leveraging its participation in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice – Abu Dhabi 2026 to demonstrate the collective expertise of Southeast Asian nations in strengthening prosecution cooperation and tackling transnational organised crime.
Jumpon Phansumrit, Director-General of the International Affairs Department at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Thailand, has emphasised the significance of the quinquennial UN Congress as a platform for bringing together criminal justice practitioners from across the globe. The gathering, he noted, facilitates the exchange of professional knowledge and the cultivation of cooperative frameworks essential for addressing shared security challenges.
The Congress provides ASEAN prosecution authorities with a distinctive opportunity to present the region’s accomplishments in strengthening coordination amongst Southeast Asian prosecutors, with particular emphasis on their multifaceted efforts against transnational organised crime. Through this engagement, participating nations seek to forge new partnerships and deepen existing alliances with fellow jurisdictions.
Mr Phansumrit outlined that the Abu Dhabi Congress enables ASEAN representatives to both absorb insights from comparable experiences across other regions and international systems, whilst simultaneously showcasing Southeast Asia’s sophisticated methodologies for cross-border criminal cooperation and coordination. This reciprocal exchange of experience represents a cornerstone of contemporary international criminal justice.
The ASEAN prosecutors-general and heads of prosecution authorities have expressed their collective aspiration to enhance cooperative arrangements with the United Arab Emirates in addressing criminal activity and cross-border offences. This aspirational partnership acknowledges the UAE’s instrumental role in regional security and justice initiatives, positioning the Emirates as a significant collaborator in the ongoing international effort to combat organised crime.
