UAE Minister Charts Course for Enhanced Global Trade and Investment Partnerships at UN Summit
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, has concluded a series of strategic engagements at the 81st UN General Assembly, reinforcing the Emirates' standing as a cornerstone of international economic cooperation.
During the UN General Assembly’s 81st session in New York, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Trade, undertook an extensive programme of high-level meetings and forums designed to strengthen the nation’s economic partnerships and open fresh avenues for bilateral and multilateral collaboration.
The Minister’s schedule encompassed ministerial dialogues, investor roundtables and engagement with leading business councils, each centred on expanding trade corridors, fostering investment opportunities, supporting sustainable development and advancing digital innovation across the global economy.
Reflecting on the UAE’s participation, Minister Al Zeyoudi emphasised that active engagement at this pivotal international forum underscores the nation’s commitment to catalysing global economic expansion. He highlighted how strategic partnership-building and enhanced integration among nations can accelerate trade flows, drive innovation and establish sustainable pathways to prosperity that benefit economies and business communities alike.
Investment and Development Finance
A principal theme throughout the week centred on investment mobilisation and development finance. The Minister participated in roundtable discussions with the BCIU, consulted with Office of Development Affairs partners during a working lunch, and co-hosted an ‘Investment for Development’ roundtable organised by the Ministry of Foreign Trade in collaboration with the ODA at the Presidential Court.
Further engagement included a panel discussion at the UAE Investment Council, where participants explored mechanisms for unlocking investment potential and strengthening public-private partnerships to support sustained economic development.
Bilateral Relations Enhanced
Throughout his visit, Minister Al Zeyoudi held bilateral meetings with senior counterparts including Thailand’s Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Rogers Espinoza, and Argentina’s Minister of International Trade Pablo Quirno. These exchanges focused on deepening economic ties, promoting bilateral trade and investment, and identifying cooperation opportunities across strategic sectors, particularly strengthening the UAE’s relationships with nations across Asia and Latin America.
The Minister also participated in numerous international business and policy forums, including those organised by the UAE-US Business Council, the European Council on Africa and Middle East Affairs, and the Invest in Bangladesh initiative. These platforms afforded further opportunity to engage with business leaders, policymakers and investors whilst demonstrating the UAE’s attractive investment environment and its comprehensive network of international economic partnerships.
