UAE and Eurojust Sign Landmark Judicial Cooperation Agreement

The Ministry of Justice has established a formal partnership with the European Union's criminal justice agency, reinforcing the Emirates' commitment to international legal collaboration.

Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, has welcomed Michael Schmid, President of the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), in a significant diplomatic engagement that underscores the United Arab Emirates’ dedication to strengthening the global framework for criminal justice.

The meeting took place during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, currently being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The occasion provided an opportune platform for advancing bilateral cooperation between the UAE and the European Union in the sphere of criminal law enforcement.

During Mr Schmid’s visit to the Ministry of Justice’s exhibition pavilion, both parties formalised their commitment through the signing of a memorandum of understanding. This accord establishes a comprehensive framework for deepening judicial cooperation and facilitating the systematic exchange of specialised knowledge and best practices in criminal matters.

The partnership reflects the Emirates’ strategic vision of positioning itself as a centre for legal excellence and international judicial collaboration. By engaging with Eurojust—a cornerstone institution of European criminal justice cooperation—the UAE demonstrates its commitment to upholding the highest standards of law enforcement and criminal prosecution across borders.

The MoU encompasses mechanisms for enhanced information sharing, professional development, and coordinated approaches to transnational crime challenges.
