Sharjah Summer Run Celebrates Community Spirit at University City

The Sharjah Sports Council's flagship running event drew enthusiastic participants across multiple distances, showcasing the emirate's commitment to grassroots sporting engagement.
The Sharjah Sports Council orchestrated a vibrant Sharjah Summer Run at University City on Sunday, 27th September, welcoming a diverse gathering of running enthusiasts spanning all ages and backgrounds. The occasion reinforced the emirate’s dedication to fostering active, healthy communities through accessible sporting opportunities.
Held in partnership with several contributing and sponsoring organisations, the event featured competitive racing across an expansive range of distances, each generating palpable energy amongst both competitors and spectators. The atmosphere reflected genuine enthusiasm for participation and achievement, with Ibrahim Saif bin Ghafan, Head of the Sports Events Organisation and Management Section within the Council’s Sports and Community Events Department, presenting medals to the victorious runners.
The 10km distance witnessed impressive performances across all categories. Ahmed Al Naqbi secured victory in the Emirati men’s classification, with Zayed Al Zahouri and Harbi Al Marri completing the podium. Meera Al Falasi triumphed in the Emirati women’s category, whilst Bernard Mengich claimed the open men’s title and Ann Wanjohi led the open women’s field.
The 5km race continued the pattern of excellence, with Majid Al Rustamani winning the Emirati men’s category and Haya Al Abdullah leading the Emirati women’s division. Victor Korir and Mercy Kimani secured victories in the respective open categories, demonstrating the cosmopolitan character of Sharjah’s sporting community.
Shorter distances ensured accessibility for all participants. Ali Al Yasi topped the Emirati men’s 2.5km competition, whilst Safia Adel secured the corresponding women’s title. The open categories saw Jamet Macharia and Ibtisam Al Shehhi emerge victorious. A dedicated 1km children’s race provided younger participants with an opportunity to experience competitive running, with Zayed Ahmed and Sheikha Al Ali claiming the boys’ and girls’ honours respectively.
The Sharjah Summer Run exemplifies the emirate’s comprehensive approach to sports development, combining elite competition with inclusive community participation. Such initiatives reinforce the social fabric whilst promoting wellness and active lifestyles across Sharjah’s population.
