Abu Dhabi to Host Elite World Triathlon Championship Series Alongside Multisport Championships in November 2026
The emirate will welcome the world's leading triathletes and thousands of international competitors to Hudayriyat Island for a ten-day celebration of elite sport and community participation, cementing its status as a premier global sporting destination.
Abu Dhabi will host the Modon World Triathlon Championship Series powered by TAQA as part of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series on 13 and 14 November, with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council organising the event at Hudayriyat Island. The championship will be rescheduled from its original March date and will feature individual sprint races on Friday 13 November, followed by the Mixed Relay Series on Saturday 14 November.
The event represents a convergence of elite and participatory sport, with the world’s leading professional triathletes competing alongside more than 4,000 age-group athletes from around the world during a ten-day multisport celebration spanning 13 to 22 November. Competitors will vie for Olympic Qualification Ranking Points, World Triathlon Ranking Points and championship prize money across both the WTCS and Mixed Relay Series competitions.

His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasised the significance of the dual championship hosting. “We are proud to welcome the world’s best athletes and thousands of participants to Abu Dhabi,” he stated. “Bringing together two major world championships of this scale on Hudayriyat Island demonstrates our commitment to the continued development of Abu Dhabi’s sporting landscape and to delivering exceptional experiences for athletes, participants and spectators, further strengthening the emirate’s position as a preferred destination for major international sporting events.”
Al Awani added that the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s standing on the global sporting map and underscores the confidence international sports federations place in the emirate’s organisational capabilities. He highlighted the longstanding strategic partnership with World Triathlon, through which Abu Dhabi continues to host world-class events that inspire communities and encourage active, healthy lifestyles.

World Triathlon President Antonio F. Arimany expressed appreciation for the commitment and support of Abu Dhabi stakeholders in bringing the championship series back to the UAE capital. “Hosting the WTCS and the Multisport Championships together on Hudayriyat Island creates something truly special, above all for our age-group community, who will now share the stage with the very best athletes in our sport,” he noted.
