UAE GCAA Streamlines Domestic Heliport Registration with Two-Day Processing Timeline
The General Civil Aviation Authority has implemented a modernised regulatory framework that dramatically accelerates domestic heliport authorisation, replacing a lengthy certification process with an efficient registration system.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has unveiled a transformative regulatory initiative designed to enhance operational efficiency within the nation’s burgeoning vertical aviation sector. The new framework reduces domestic heliport registration processing time from up to 135 days to merely two working days, representing a substantial advancement in administrative responsiveness.
The transition replaces the previous certification requirement for domestic heliports with a streamlined registration system, marking a pivotal evolution in how the authority manages aviation infrastructure development. This modernisation demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to maintaining its position as a global aviation leader whilst simultaneously fostering a more business-friendly regulatory environment.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, emphasised the significance of this development: “The UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in aviation by adopting smart, forward-looking regulations that support innovation, economic growth, and operational excellence whilst maintaining our unwavering commitment to safety.”
The streamlined approach operates within a sophisticated, risk-based regulatory model that aligns oversight with operational risk. By adopting this contemporary framework, the GCAA can concentrate regulatory resources where they provide the greatest safety value, whilst simultaneously removing unnecessary administrative barriers for lower-risk domestic operations.
International heliports and facilities where certification remains requisite will continue operating under the applicable certification framework, in accordance with national regulations and international requirements. This balanced approach ensures that safety standards remain uncompromised across all operational categories.
Eng. Aqeel Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of the Aviation Safety Affairs Sector at the GCAA, noted that the initiative significantly reduces bureaucratic processes, enabling operators to establish new heliports with considerably greater efficiency. This advancement directly supports the continued expansion of the UAE’s helicopter industry whilst preparing the sector for emerging opportunities.
The framework aligns seamlessly with the UAE Government’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, eliminating superfluous procedures and simplifying the regulatory pathway for domestic heliport operators. By maintaining rigorous safety oversight whilst reducing administrative burden, the authority facilitates increased investment in vertical aviation infrastructure and encourages innovation within the broader aviation services ecosystem.
