Sharjah Police Hosts Inaugural Athletics Championship
Sharjah Police General Command has successfully conducted its first athletics championship, bringing together 65 personnel to compete across multiple distance races and identify sporting talent.
Sharjah Police General Command, through its Sports Activities Section within the General Department of Resources and Support Services, has organised its inaugural athletics championship, drawing participation from 65 officers across the force.
The competitive event featured distance running categories spanning 400 metres, 800 metres and 1,500 metres, providing a comprehensive assessment of participants’ cardiovascular fitness and athletic capability. The championship served a dual purpose: evaluating the physical conditioning of personnel whilst simultaneously identifying exceptional sporting talent capable of representing Sharjah Police at Ministry of Interior championships and other forthcoming competitive fixtures.
Lieutenant Colonel Matar Salem Al Rashdi, Head of the Sports Activities Section, emphasised the fundamental importance of physical fitness within law enforcement operations. He noted that robust fitness standards constitute a cornerstone of the comprehensive physical and mental preparation essential for police officers, directly enhancing their operational capacity in field duties whilst simultaneously strengthening concentration levels and response speed—attributes paramount to effective policing.
The initiative extends beyond mere fitness assessment, actively serving to develop personnel capabilities, foster healthy competitive spirit amongst the force, and establish a pipeline of elite athletes capable of representing Sharjah Police in future sporting competitions. The championship concluded with formal recognition ceremonies honouring top finishers, celebrating their exceptional performances and dedication.
Throughout the event, participants demonstrated exemplary standards of discipline and mental fortitude, coupled with impressive physical readiness, reflecting the professional standards maintained across Sharjah Police General Command.
