Sharjah Ruler Advances Higher Education Framework with Unified Standards

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi chairs executive committee meeting to strengthen the emirate's academic institutions and scientific research sector
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over a strategic session of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR) Executive Committee on Thursday, convening at its headquarters in University City.
The meeting focused on initiatives designed to enhance Sharjah’s higher education landscape and fortify its scientific and academic ecosystem. Deliberations centred on policies that would advance both institutional excellence and the professional development of academic and administrative personnel, whilst broadening opportunities for the student community.
Among significant decisions, His Highness approved the harmonisation of regulatory frameworks and compensation structures for administrative personnel across five key institutions: the University of Khorfakkan, the University of Kalba, the University of Al Dhaid, Sharjah Maritime Academy and Sharjah Education Academy. This alignment strengthens operational coherence across the sector and positions these establishments to compete for distinguished talent in specialised fields.
The unified salary framework extends beyond remuneration to encompassing standardised leave entitlements, including bereavement leave provisions consistent with those afforded to government employees throughout the emirate. These measures are intended to foster an attractive employment environment whilst maintaining institutional consistency.
His Highness further endorsed a comprehensive scholarship and discount policy governing higher education and scientific research institutions across Sharjah. The regulatory framework enhances procedural clarity and accessibility for prospective applicants, streamlining interactions between the Council and participating institutions whilst establishing transparent governance standards.
In addition, approval was granted for the SCHESR budget allocation for 2027, ensuring adequate resources to advance the Council’s mandate in cultivating a flourishing higher education ecosystem and reinforcing Sharjah’s standing as a distinguished scientific centre of regional significance.
The assembly included senior government officials and academic leaders, among them Dr Mansour bin Nassar, Dr Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of SCHESR, and Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, reflecting the collaborative governance approach characteristic of Sharjah’s institutional leadership.
