Ajman University Celebrates Historic Milestone as Enrolment Surpasses 10,000

The institution, founded as the Gulf's first private university, reinforces its commitment to academic excellence whilst navigating the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany unprecedented growth.

Ajman University has attained a defining moment in its institutional history, welcoming its 10,000th enrolled student—a remarkable achievement that reflects three decades of sustained academic development and the enduring confidence of students and families in the emirate’s higher education landscape.

Founded in 1988 as the first private university in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, Ajman University has evolved into a globally connected, non-profit institution attracting scholars and faculty from across the Emirates and beyond. The milestone underscores the university’s dual commitment: delivering academic excellence whilst maintaining the quality of student support and learning experience that prospective students rightfully expect.

Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, emphasised the significance of this achievement, noting that growth brings both opportunity and obligation. “A resilient higher education sector is built on institutions that can adapt to changing needs while maintaining academic standards and investing in the future,” he observed. “Every student who chooses AU should benefit from quality teaching, effective support and opportunities to prepare for a meaningful career.”

The university’s expansion coincides with an extraordinary period of academic recognition. In 2026, Ajman University entered the world’s top 400 universities for the first time, achieving a ranking of 397 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The institution also holds a 5+ QS Stars overall rating—the highest distinction available—with five-star recognition across teaching, employability, research, governance, global engagement, social impact, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Institutional accreditation through the WASC Senior College and University Commission reinforces the university’s commitment to internationally benchmarked standards of academic quality. As a non-profit entity, the university continuously reinvests revenue into faculty excellence, research infrastructure, learning facilities and international partnerships.

The academic portfolio has expanded strategically into emerging disciplines including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science and advanced health sciences. These developments, coupled with strengthened research activity and industry engagement, position graduates to contribute meaningfully to the UAE’s evolving economic landscape and wider society.
