Victory Team Eyes Shanghai Glory as Championship Battle Intensifies

Shaun Torrente and Victory Team head to the third round of the UIM F1H2O World Championship seeking pole position, with the reigning champion leading the drivers' standings and the championship wide open.

The Shanghai Grand Prix promises compelling competition this weekend as Victory Team pursues pole position in the third round of the UIM F1H2O World Championship. The qualifying session and Sprint races on Sunday will offer teams the opportunity to secure additional championship points in what remains a closely contested season.

Victory Team driver Shaun Torrente currently leads the Drivers’ Championship with 40 points, having recovered impressively following a challenging outing at Cagliari, where mechanical complications forced his retirement. His subsequent victory at the Kyrgyzstan Grand Prix demonstrated the calibre that has established him as reigning world champion, positioning him at the summit of the standings heading to Shanghai.

The teams’ competition reflects the tight margins defining this championship season. Victory Team occupies second place in the Teams’ Championship with 60 points, separated by just a single point from leaders Team Abu Dhabi. This narrow gap underscores the competitive intensity characterising the 2026 campaign, with multiple contenders capable of decisive action.

The UAE contingent will provide formidable opposition at Shanghai. Team Abu Dhabi’s slender lead in the teams’ standings places them as primary challengers, whilst Sharjah Team remains very much in contention. Stefan Arand, driving for Sharjah Team, claimed victory in the season’s opening round and currently holds 36 points in the drivers’ standings. Although he experienced engine difficulties at Kyrgyzstan that forced his retirement, he arrives in Shanghai with the momentum and experience to pose a significant challenge.

The Shanghai Grand Prix represents a critical juncture in the championship narrative. With substantial points still to be contested across the remaining rounds, the field remains wide open. Victory Team’s pursuit of pole position reflects their ambitions not merely for individual race success, but for the sustained consistency required to claim the championship title.

The international field will also challenge the UAE teams, ensuring that Sunday’s qualifying and racing will demonstrate the world-class standards that characterise professional powerboat racing at its highest level.
