UAE deepens strategic partnership with Kazakhstan across energy, infrastructure and innovation

Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei leads comprehensive delegation visit to strengthen bilateral cooperation in priority sectors including energy, transport and artificial intelligence
The United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan have reinforced their strategic partnership through a high-level delegation visit spanning both Almaty and Astana, with Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei leading discussions on deepening cooperation across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
Minister Al Mazrouei commenced his visit by attending the 30th Kazakhstan International Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, held in Almaty from 30th September to 2nd October. The prestigious event, which convened over 500 companies from 30 nations alongside leading institutions in the oil and gas sector, provided an ideal platform for advancing energy sector dialogue. During a roundtable session, the Minister articulated key perspectives on international cooperation and energy security, emphasising the importance of strengthening regional coordination and preparing nations for evolving market dynamics.
A significant outcome of the visit was the signing of a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding between the UAE, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan concerning the Central Asia–South Asia railway project. Attended by transport officials from all three nations, the agreement aims to enhance railway connectivity, develop integrated transport networks and facilitate regional trade integration through improved infrastructure and economic corridors.
During his time in Astana, Minister Al Mazrouei participated in a roundtable on investment opportunities hosted by the Astana International Financial Centre Governor. The session brought together representatives from both governmental and private-sector institutions, including Etihad Water and Electricity, Etihad Rail, Masdar, AD Ports Group and other significant entities. Participants reviewed existing bilateral projects and identified new avenues for expanding mutual investment and economic cooperation in priority areas.
The Minister also attended the inauguration of the Kazakhstan National AI Research University, Central Asia’s first institution specialising in artificial intelligence, marking a notable advancement in bilateral cooperation on education, technology and innovation. The event highlighted both nations’ commitment to developing skilled talent for knowledge-based economies.
Minister Al Mazrouei’s visit culminated in a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during which he conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister. The bilateral discussion reviewed current relations and explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation in infrastructure, transport, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, with particular emphasis on AD Ports Group initiatives and Middle Corridor development. President Tokayev commended existing collaboration in high-performance computing infrastructure and stressed the importance of advancing joint efforts in advanced technology to serve both nations’ aspirations.
