UAE Appointed to OIC States Broadcasting Union Executive Council

The United Arab Emirates has been selected for a seat on the Executive Council of the OIC States Broadcasting Union, underscoring its leadership in media development and commitment to advancing Arab and Islamic broadcasting on the international stage.

The General Assembly of the OIC States Broadcasting Union has conferred membership of its Executive Council upon the United Arab Emirates, a recognition that reflects the nation’s considerable standing within the global media landscape and its dedication to fostering collaboration amongst broadcasting institutions across the Arab and Islamic world.

The decision, formalised during a remote meeting of the Union’s General Assembly, acknowledges the UAE’s pioneering efforts in media sector advancement and the strategic vision of its leadership in cultivating a sophisticated media industry anchored upon human capital, knowledge development and contemporary technological innovation.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the National Media Authority, articulated the significance of this appointment, stating that the selection validates the UAE’s progressive approach to media development and underscores governmental commitment to establishing a media sector of genuine excellence. The framework encompasses investment in skilled professionals, knowledge infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies, whilst simultaneously promoting meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding between peoples and nations.

Al Shehhi expressed confidence that this Executive Council membership will catalyse substantive cooperation amongst member states, enabling the exchange of professional expertise, collaborative content development and systematic enhancement of media practitioners’ capabilities across the region.

The Secretary-General emphasised that the UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to utilising its accumulated expertise and established international partnerships to champion responsible, professional journalism that authentically represents the values, cultures and aspirations of Arab and Islamic societies. Through this Executive Council appointment, the nation intends to amplify the global reach and influence of its media institutions whilst celebrating the rich cultural heritage and contemporary concerns of its peoples.

Al Shehhi further highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening partnerships with regional and international media organisations, observing that such collaboration establishes a robust framework for identifying shared priorities in media cooperation and developing institutions capable of responding dynamically to technological advancement and professional innovation. These partnerships, he noted, serve the broader purpose of enhancing global media presence and influence, celebrating cultural expression, and reinforcing media’s fundamental role as both a development partner and catalyst for international understanding.
