So for the spring/summer 2015 collection, all eyes were on Scott to see if he would answer critics, and how he would do it. And his approach was interesting, appealing to the nostalgic affection for the heyday of Moschino and his unique, irreverent take on the fashion world. Furthering the theme of appropriation we saw last year with the fast-food inspired clothing, Scott here references other fashion houses in a witty yet reverent way. Using interlocking Moschino smiley-faces to create a Chanel- esque logo, or imitating the Hermès ribbon motif on orange denim, Scott creates a pure pop look that pokes fun at the concept of fashion while acknowledging its iconic power. Unabashedly celebrating the early 1990s, the collection features mesh racerback vests and trackpants, denim separates, tailored suits and swimwear, all emblazoned with logo upon logo, smiley faces and dollar signs. Despite all the clever notes and self-referential embellishments, Scott said backstage that ultimately he just wants to make clothes that people want to wear. And given how well the reborn Moschino brand is doing, it seems Scott is succeeding in his goal.
