A Park Becomes a Workspace: Dubai Municipality Reimagines the Modern Office

Al Barsha Pond Park now hosts Dubai's first Work From Park, a pioneering destination that blends professional facilities with outdoor wellbeing, reflecting how cities are reshaping public spaces for contemporary living.
The boundary between work and leisure has grown increasingly permeable. At Al Barsha Pond Park, Dubai Municipality has taken that observation and woven it into the fabric of one of the city’s green spaces, creating an environment where the traditional office gives way to something altogether more fluid and humane.
Work From Park represents the first destination of its kind in Dubai, a collaboration between the municipality, Group AMANA and Letswork that integrates flexible working facilities into a neighbourhood park. The concept is deceptively simple: residents and visitors can now work, hold meetings and collaborate while surrounded by trees, open air and the gentle rhythms of a recreational space. Climate-controlled indoor facilities sit alongside outdoor working areas, each designed to accommodate different professional needs without sacrificing the restorative benefits of nature.
The physical realisation of this vision draws on advanced modular construction methods. Group AMANA employed DuBox and DuPod technology to assemble the necessary structures off-site, in a controlled factory setting, before transferring them to the park. This approach proved elegant in its efficiency: preparatory works could progress simultaneously at Al Barsha, construction quality could be maintained at a higher standard, and disruption to park visitors was substantially minimised. The methodology speaks to a broader architectural and urban design conversation about how cities can introduce new facilities into established spaces without compromising their character or accessibility.
Bader Anwahi, Chief Executive of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, articulated the thinking behind the initiative: the opening reflects a vision for the next generation of Dubai’s public spaces, where parks serve a broader role in everyday community life. This approach aligns with the Dubai 2040 Parks and Greenery Strategy, as we reported in our coverage of how Dubai Municipality has embedded anticipatory governance across its operations, positioning the emirate at the forefront of municipal innovation. The municipality is developing destinations that respond to how people actually live and work, introducing experiences that complement the essential recreational and environmental functions of parks.
The workspace experience operates on a tiered system. Outdoor working areas remain accessible to all park visitors without reservation. Indoor day access can be booked through the Letswork application or website, offering climate-controlled environments for those requiring additional privacy and dedicated amenities. For longer-term users, fixed desks and private offices are available, subject to availability. The arrangement encourages flexible, dynamic use: a freelancer might book a desk for an afternoon; a small team might reserve a meeting room; a regular user might establish a more permanent base.
This initiative sits within Dubai Municipality’s broader efforts to enhance the quality and diversity of experiences available across its public parks. By introducing professional working facilities closer to residential communities, the project expands opportunities for residents to use public spaces in ways that complement their daily routines. It also demonstrates how strategic collaboration with private sector partners can enhance the value of established destinations, introducing services and experiences that respond to evolving patterns of work, recreation and social interaction.
The opening of Work From Park thus signals something deeper than the mere addition of workspace facilities to a public park. It speaks to an urban philosophy that acknowledges the interconnectedness of work, leisure, community and wellbeing, and recognises that modern cities must accommodate all of these dimensions if they are to remain truly liveable.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
Dubai Municipality’s Work From Park initiative demonstrates how innovative approaches to public space development can respond to changing lifestyles and working patterns across the emirates. The modular construction methodology employed in the project offers a replicable model for integrating new facilities into established urban environments, a methodology that could benefit public space development elsewhere in the UAE. The concept itself reflects a broader architectural and urban design conversation about how cities can enhance the functionality and accessibility of parks without compromising their essential recreational and environmental character.
The initiative also illustrates the potential for strategic public-private collaboration in enhancing public destinations. By working with specialised private sector partners such as Group AMANA and Letswork, Dubai Municipality has introduced innovative services that respond to community needs whilst maintaining public stewardship of its parks. This approach to partnership and co-creation represents a model for how government and private sector can work together to create multifunctional, sustainable public spaces that contribute to making the emirates more liveable and attractive places to live, work and connect.
