Abu Dhabi Extends Invitation to Chad’s Leadership for Global Sustainability Summit

Abu Dhabi Extends Invitation to Chad's Leadership for Global Sustainability Summit

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has invited the President of Chad to join world leaders at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January 2027, underscoring the UAE's commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties across Africa and advancing global environmental stewardship.

A message of invitation has travelled from Abu Dhabi to N’Djamena, carrying with it the UAE’s vision for a more sustainable future. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, has extended a personal invitation to His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad, to attend the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and to participate in its Summit on January 12 and 13, 2027.

The invitation, delivered through His Excellency Rashed Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Chad, carries particular significance. It encompasses attendance at the honouring of the Zayed Sustainability Prize winners, an annual recognition of excellence in environmental stewardship and innovation. The gesture reflects the UAE’s broader diplomatic engagement across the African continent and its investment in building meaningful partnerships around shared environmental challenges.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week remains one of the region’s most significant gatherings of global thought leaders, policymakers and innovators. By extending this invitation to Chad’s President, the UAE reinforces its position as a convener of international dialogue on sustainability and climate action, matters that resonate deeply with nations across Africa and beyond.

The timing of the invitation comes as the UAE continues a pattern of strengthening relationships with African leadership. In recent weeks, the country has welcomed presidents and dignitaries from across the continent, each visit strengthening ties and advancing shared interests in prosperity, stability and environmental responsibility.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week stands as the Emirate’s leading platform for positioning the UAE at the forefront of global environmental innovation and climate leadership. By drawing heads of state from Africa and beyond, the summit elevates Abu Dhabi’s role as a venue where transformative ideas about sustainability are conceived, shared and acted upon.

The invitation to Chad’s President reflects Abu Dhabi’s strategic recognition that environmental challenges and solutions transcend borders. As the Emirate continues to advance its own sustainability agenda through initiatives like the Zayed Sustainability Prize, it recognises that meaningful progress demands engagement with nations facing their own ecological transitions and climate pressures.
