Abu Dhabi’s Arabic Literature Reaches the World

We celebrate a remarkable milestone in the advancement of Arabic literature as the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre marks one year of its transformative Kalima to the World initiative. This purposeful endeavour has become instrumental in elevating the presence of Arabic letters across the cultural landscape of the world, fostering meaningful exchange between Arab and international audiences through the noble art of translation.

At the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Centre orchestrated an elegant ceremony within its pavilion to announce an impressive constellation of partnerships. These collaborations unite a distinguished roster of both Arab and international publishers in common cause, each committed to the vital work of translating Arabic literature for global readership, whilst simultaneously rendering international works into Arabic for audiences throughout the Arab world.

The Kalima to the World initiative represents a graceful recognition that literature transcends borders and languages, serving as a bridge between civilisations and cultures. By championing translation from Arabic and into Arabic with equal vigour, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre has positioned the Emirates at the forefront of cultural diplomacy and intellectual exchange. The project embodies a vision wherein the richness of Arabic literary traditions becomes accessible to readers everywhere, enriching the global cultural conversation and ensuring that voices from the Arab world resonate with the eloquence and nuance they deserve.

Through these burgeoning partnerships, the initiative continues to weave together the threads of international literary communities, strengthening bonds between publishers, translators and readers across continents. This commitment to translation speaks to a deeper understanding that culture, in its finest expression, knows no boundaries and that the written word possesses an unparalleled power to illuminate, inspire and unite.
