The election of Ali Alhosani as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund represents a significant milestone for the UAE, reflecting the nation's growing influence in global financial governance and the international recognition of Emirati expertise.

Ali Alhosani has been elected Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, becoming the first Emirati national to assume this distinguished position within the institution’s leadership structure. The appointment underscores the UAE’s expanding presence and influence across the world’s foremost international financial institutions, whilst affirming the exceptional calibre of Emirati talent and expertise on the global stage.

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, has emphasised that this achievement reflects the forward-looking vision of the UAE’s leadership to strengthen the nation’s position as a principal contributor to global economic growth and prosperity. The elevation of Emirati professionals to senior international roles demonstrates the country’s commitment to shaping the future of international financial governance and advancing multilateral cooperation.

In his capacity as Executive Director, Mr Alhosani will represent the economic and financial interests of the Arab Group and the Maldives at the IMF Executive Board. His educational background encompasses postgraduate study at George Mason University and Harvard, alongside undergraduate economics studies from American University in Washington, D.C.

Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, has noted that this election strengthens the UAE’s presence at the centre of global financial and economic decision making, whilst reaffirming the nation’s role as a key partner in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and international financial system stability. The appointment coincides with the UAE’s selection to host the 2029 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund, further elevating the country’s standing within the global financial architecture.
